Nissan and Honda will not unite in one concern. Japanese auto giants stopped negotiations on the merger and canceled the memorandum of understanding, signed in December last year. This was reported on the official websites of auto manufacturers.

The Nissan statement notes that the parties considered various merger formats. It was originally planned that Honda and Nissan will become subsidiaries of a large company with equal rights.

However, subsequently representatives of Honda made a proposal that their company would become a maternal. Nissan did not agree to such a format of unification, so the negotiations ceased.

Honda reported that despite failure, two corporations will continue cooperation. The emphasis will be on the development of electrified and smart vehicles.

Recall that Honda and Nissan have long been negotiating the creation of a concern, which would become the third largest automaker in the world. Mitsubishi Motors was supposed to join him, 34% of the shares of which belongs to Nissan. Nissan decided to take such a step due to a sharp fall in sales and profit.
