But the Citroen DS engine turned out to be quite modest-1.9-liter and 75-horsepower. The maximum speed of the front -wheel drive sedan was 140 km/h. The fact is that in France in the 50s the taxation of a car depended on their capacity.
Over time, the ruler was replenished with 2.1 liter engines (115 liters. ) and 2.3 l (140 l. ) who complemented fuel injection. There were also a station wagon and budget version of ID, which did not have a hydropneumatic suspension or disc brakes and was equipped with a mechanical checkpoint.
They also presented a luxurious version of Pallas with a leather salon and air conditioning, and the Chapron bodybuilding atelier established the release of small series of convertibles and the Citroen DS compartment.
Chapron experts have created special versions of Citroen DS for Charles de Gaulle - a front -line convertible and an elongated sedan. It was the latter that saved the life of the President of France during the attempt: the tires broke the bullets of the terrorists, but thanks to the advanced suspension, the cars managed to leve and continue the movement.
Citroen DS was not too fast, but at the same time successfully proved himself in races. In 1959 and 1966, he won the famous Monte Carlo rally.
